Pray for This Brother’s Guidance

Nearly 32 years ago, while being a theological student in Stellenbosch, South Africa, I tested HIV positive. This was a frightening, devastating, dream-destroying death sentence at the time. However, in this I grew to know God as the One who is Emanuel not only during Christmas but also in our times of desperation. I learnt to live with Hope, not despite of but in the midst of, because of who Christ has gained for us.

Shortly after the HIV diagnosis God laid a purpose in my heart in the words of Acts 20:24: “However, I consider my life worth nothing to me; my only aim is to finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me—the task of testifying to the good news of God’s grace.”

We serve a most awesome God. He took my wife and me on a journey of faith, which often went through the valley of death, but our Shepherd not only carried us through but also opened doors to a ministry far beyond what I ever could have dreamed of.

When the church in South Africa was not ready to embrace a ministry on HIV, God awakened a secular insurance company to become His agent of change. Then World Vision International offered me the opportunity to take that global to walk alongside  Church leaders to become channels of Hope relating to the most difficult issues their communities face. See: https://www.wvi.org/faith-and-development/channels-hope

Currently I am serving in the most amazing job as Senior Director for Faith and External Engagement. A dream job, working with the most amazing team, which I love and hugely appreciate. But from March 10, God has forced me through a series of health challenges to slow down, stop, and reflect. In this He repeatedly confirmed His faithfulness, how He has done it in my life in the past, and the confirmation that He will continue to do that in the future.

I know God is leading me toward a next phase, but what that might be, I have no clue. He has prepared me over many years, taking me on an unique and powerful journey.

Please pray with me as I discern where God is leading, for Him to clearly lay the vision in my heart, and open the correct doors at His time, and to give me the courage to see, hear and follow.

May His Kingdom come and His will be done.

Thanks for your prayers
