Please join me in praying for Mwesigwa Benard and this Link Hands Uganda project in Jinja. I hope you will also take a moment to email Brother Benard to let him know you are praying: linkhandsuganda@yahoo.com

From Brother Benard:

Well, we are in another lockdown and many people are home. Covid-19 is killing people, but also hunger is killing many. . . . We have a small COB (Community Based Organization) and we came up with a suggestion of helping 30 needy families with relief food in this pandemic.

[He goes on to say he hopes you will read this information and share your thoughts with him.]

Project Title:

Relief food to the needy people in this lockdown caused by Covid-19 pandemic

Location:

The project will be carried out in Jinja city suburbs namely; Mafubira, Buwenge, Nakabango, Butiki, and Mpumudde.

Project Beneficiaries:

The needy families selected in the areas named above. There are 30 vulnerable poor families which will be beneficiaries.

Project duration:

This is will last for as long as lockdown continues. But as for now, we hope this to last for 3 months.

Executive summary:

The proposed project to give relief food is in the capacity of implementing and adding on the government initiatives to feed and take care of its people during this lockdown.

The pandemic has affected people in many ways worldwide; many have lost jobs, and the economy is at the brink while the vulnerable poor and destitute remain poverty stricken.

Uganda is an agricultural economy; where 90% of Ugandans are employed in agriculture sector. But most farmers are subsistent farmers, not agri-business men. They depend on natural rain for their crops to grow.

The lockdown has come in a dry season where many families lack food because their crops are still young or affected by pests and diseases.

A moderate Ugandan family has 8-9 people. Some families are bigger than that due to several reasons. We are focusing on 240 (including children).

Giving the relief food to needy families will enable them to move on for some time.

Interventions management Plan:

As Link Hands Uganda, we are a team of four volunteers who come together help where need be. Rev. Benard Mwesigwa carries out most day to day work and Paul Ssenabulya is a part time volunteer who comes in with monitoring and evaluation. Jean & Betty are part time volunteers who come in when there is need.

We shall manage this project in the following ways;

  • Ensuring all the selected families receive relief food.
  • Monitoring and evaluating the impact of the relief food.
  • Reporting to the donors.
  • Transporting food in this lockdown to every family.

Project justification/ Rationale:

Our Lord Jesus Christ commanded us to love our neighbors as we love ourselves. It is well evidenced in the Old Testament to help others, “Then the men who were designated by name arose, took the captives, and they clothed all their naked ones from the spoil; and they gave them clothes and sandals, fed them and gave them drink, anointed them with oil, led all their feeble ones on donkeys, and brought them to Jericho, the city of Palm trees, to their brothers; then they returned to Samaria.” 1 Chronicles 28:15

Project core values:

  • Accountability transparency
  • Starfish way of doing things ( one step at a time)
  • Prayer above everything
  • Trust and honesty.
  • Mutual respect and unity.

Monitoring and Evaluation:

This will be done to ensure and assess the impact relief food on the community. Evaluating our strengths and weaknesses and what we can learn from our mistakes.
